Wimbledon 2018: Betting on Federer and Kvitová

Wimbledon

The Swiss veteran is 7/4 to lift the trophy for the ninth time at the All England Club, just ahead of Novak Djokovic and Raphael Nadal, iNews reports.Skybet was offering 14/1 odds that Federer, the highest-seeded player, would beat Serbian Dusan Lajovic in the opening round of the tournament on Monday. If he succeeds, the 37-year-old could face Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinals and either Marin Cilic or Grigor Dimitrov in the semis. In the bottom half of the draw, second seed Rafael Nadal could face Juan Martin del Potro in the quarterfinals, with French open finalist Dominic Thiem likely to face Alexander Zverrev in the other quarterfinal match.

With former world No 1 Andy Murray withdrawing from the tournament with an injury, Kyle Edmund now shoulders all of Britain’s hopes of winning the competition.

In the women’s draw, the two-time Wimbledon winner Kvitová was the 5/1 favourite on Monday, elbowing out Serena Williams. Williams bowed out of competition for 13 months following the birth of her first child last September.

She’s down but not out, however. Williams, a seven-time winner, won the title at her last appearance at the All-England Club in 2016. She was controversially seeded No.25 for her return to Wimbledon and will play Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands in her opening match.
