Scheffler, Manchester City and ‘breaking even’ on the Grand National – bet365 reflects

Premier League Grand National MastersListen To Article

It’s been another busy weekend in sport across the globe, with action from right across the sportsbook spectrum being unpicked by bet365.

Starting with the Premier League – Sunday saw the title race turned on its head, with both Arsenal and Liverpool failing to pick up any points, moving Manchester City into pole position for the first time since November.

Arsenal’s loss to Aston Villa saw Villa pull three points clear of Spurs in the race for the top 4, with a game in hand. This shifts the odds between the two, with Villa now at 1/2 to finish in a Champions League spot and Spurs at 13/8. The title race between Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool now has the teams at 2/5, 4/1 and 6/1 to win the league respectively.

Bet365’s Steve Freeth spoke on the weekend’s results, stating: “In the space of a few hours we saw 1/5 Liverpool and 1 / 4 Arsenal falter.”

“That (Liverpool) result, quickly followed by the one at the Emirates had Manchester City ending the day as the big winners having shortened from 5/4 into 2/5 in the title race despite not kicking a ball.”

Over the pond, Scottie Scheffler arrived at the Masters in Augusta at 4/1, winning by four shots. Looking forward, his dominance over the weekend has seen Scheffler backed at 33/1 to win each of 2024’s four major titles – with 4/1 backing again for the fast-approaching PGA Championship.

Action from both the Masters and the Grand National had the operator finishing in the red, with the Aintree event living up to its billing. Favourite I Am Maximus took home the proverbial spoils and shifted its own odds to win the 2025 Grand National to 16/1.

Bet365’s Pat Cooney commented on the National, saying: “We absolutely broke even on the Grand National. The winner, I am Maximus, was one of our biggest liabilities and a hugely popular selection.”
