MediaTroopers is a sports betting, casino and iGaming affiliate currently operating in a total of 19 states and also Ontario, Canada.
This new licence approval will allow MediaTroopers to offer its sports betting and casino services to players in Maryland.
The company has been eager to break into this jurisdiction after seeing success in neighbouring states including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia. The approval of the Maryland licence will give MediaTroopers the opportunity to access a brand new customer market.
The past year has seen MediaTroopers more than double the number of states in which it operates, and the company looks set to continue to expand and develop its client base.
MediaTroopers CEO Sam Segal said in a statement: “We are beyond thrilled to have received a Casinos/Sports Wagering Vendor Licence with the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. While we already hold valid licensing and regulation in over a dozen US states, adding Maryland to our substantial portfolio enables us to continue providing our pioneering services to the Mid-Atlantic region of the US.”
Maryland’s first retail sportsbook opened in 2021, with John Martin, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency Director saying the state will launch online sports betting in Autumn 2022.
The future of sports betting in Maryland looks bright, with the state’s legislation allowing for up to 60 mobile licences.
Discussing future opportunities, Segal said: “With the potential for up to 60 mobile betting operators to gain a licence in Maryland, the state has the possibility to become one of the US’ most significant online betting markets.”
