The newly regulated market, which launched on 1 Sept, generated total revenue of $8.6m for the month of September.

Indiana mobile sports betting only launched in October, meaning the first month’s results are all based on retail sportsbooks.

The state saw a significant contribution from its Chicago-based casinos, with Horseshoe Hammond generating almost $9m in handle and Ameristar East Chicago more than $5.4m.

This week Gambling Insider spoke to Jamie Shea, DraftKing’s Head of Sportsbook Digital, following the launch of the operator’s mobile sportsbook in Indiana.

Shea believes the market can achieve similar success to New Jersey, thanks to reasonable tax rates and the legalisation of mobile.

She said: “I think just from the numbers we’ve seen so far, 58% of the bettors in Indiana using DraftKings have never bet with us before, so we’ve definitely seen an uptick. It’s something Indiana has been wanting and we can see that in the numbers.

“The players are having a lot of fun with it and there are a couple of high rollers in there. We’re seeing it being a lot of fun for the Indiana population.”
