Inter Miami have signed full-back, Jordi Alba, as part of their summer rebuild which has already seen them bring in the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, who may both be in line for the Leagues Cup debut soon. The 34-year-old defender arrives on a one-year deal until 2024 with a “Club option for 2025″, according to the official statement regarding the move.
Alba arrives in Miami in what has so far been a groundbreaking season of recruitment for the side; the signings of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets signalled a momentous occasion, potentially a true before-and-after moment for soccer in the US, and the latest addition of Alba certainly falls into that category.

“Regarded as one of the world’s best left backs”, the statement says, Alba will join up with the squad “in the coming days”. Chief Soccer Director and Sporting Director Chris Henderson said “Jordi is an accomplished, dynamic and experienced player that we’re excited to acquire to continue bolstering our squad. He has proven for over a decade that he is one of the best fullbacks in the sport due to both his defensive solidity and capacity to contribute in the attack.”

How much did Inter Miami pay for Jordi Alba?
While not much in the world of football is free, Jordi Alba arrived as a free agent to Tata Martino’s Inter Miami, meaning the club did not pay a transfer fee directly to another club. After making over 300 appearances in over a decade for FC Barcelona, Alba’s contract ran out and he left the club after not signing a new deal, potentially due to a mixture of reasons including Barça’s finances and Alba’s personal stage of his career.
