Denmark’s GGR rises to DKK 604m for November 2021

GrowthRevenue

October saw the Nordic country’s GGR fall by 25.6% to DKK 525m, but November’s results may have signalled a positive change in Denmark’s fortunes.

By far, betting generated the largest portion of the nation’s GGR for November. DKK 252m came from this segment, surpassing the next most sizeable vertical by DKK 34m.

This also represents a 92.4% increase from October’s DKK 131m, and a 51.7% increase from the segment’s GGR for November 2020.

In fact, while all areas besides land-based casino had seen year-on-year (YOY) declines for October, November saw them all return to growth.

Online casino generated DKK 218m, a 10.2% YOY increase, while gaming machines produced DKK 102m for a more modest 1.6% rise.

However, while November GGR from land-based casinos remained above the prior-year sum, it experienced a 15.8% decline from October to November 2021, reporting DKK 38m and DKK 32m respectively. Similarly, the country’s GGR was also above September’s when the Danish Gambling Authority reported DKK 565m in revenue.

Nevertheless, Denmark’s total GGR is still below July’s DKK 605m p, and the closure of casinos and gaming arcades is unlikely to help the country’s gambling market.

In a press conference, the nation’s Minister for Health Magnus Heunicke announced that both types of venue will remain closed until 31 January after they were originally ordered to shut on 17 December 2021. This is intended to curb a recent rise in Covid-19 cases, and in particular, the Omicron variant.
