KSA enhances safer gambling measures ahead of Euro 2024

The Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has announced that a renewed focus will be placed on prevention, supervision and enforcement measures around sports betting this summer during Euro 2024.

The KSA’s statement initially underlines that the regulatory body anticipates an increase in both the number of online sports wagering and gambling advertisements this summer, with both Euro 2024 and the Copa America taking place. Therefore, it has been announced that a tightening in gambling safety measures will be enforced, centred around three key areas.

Firstly, the KSA has launched a campaign focusing on prevention entitled, ‘Don’t play games with your money.’ Developed in collaboration with the Dutch gambling help centre, Loket Kansspel and financed by the Addiction Prevention Fund (Vpf), the campaign targets people aged 18-24 and aims to raise awareness around the risks associated with gambling.

Participants are also invited to take a test which will provide insight into their own gambling habits and behaviours.

The second area of focus detailed by the KSA is the tightening of supervision around advertising and gambling offerings dished out by sports betting providers over the summer. An official letter has already been distributed to all licenced providers, warning them not to push any legal boundaries in this area over the coming months. The letter also underlines the KSA’s intention to take fast and uncompromising action in the case of any violations and – to that effect – the KSA has also stated that it will be sharpening its enforcement measures this summer.

As part of the campaign, from this week, players who contact Loket Kansspel will receive a free subscription to software that can block all online gambling websites worldwide for themselves. This latest update comes within weeks of the KSA also releasing a revised responsible gaming policy.
