Alan Shearer announced as latest Betfair ambassador

ShearerListen To Article

All-time record Premier League goal scorer Alan Shearer has been unveiled as Betfair’s latest football ambassador just days before the commencing of Euro 2024.

A highly decorated football player, Shearer was a Premier League winner in the 1994/95 season with Blackburn and a two-time recipient of the Premier League Golden Boot. Further, Shearer also won the Golden Boot at Euro ‘96, ending a two-year international goal drought at the time.

Now, 28 years later, Shearer will participate at this Euros by speaking with Betfair each week to offer a preview of the games, insight into all the tournament news and updates on England’s chances of becoming champions this summer.

Betfair has made additional recent inroads within the football world by becoming the primary sponsor for Brazilian football club Vasco da Gama, in what is the largest sponsorship deal in the club’s history. This latest news also comes just a few weeks after the bookmaker announced that £1.35m ($1.7m) was wagered on Betfair Exchange in just 24 hours on the outcome of the UK General Election.

Now, bettors in the UK will be looking to focus their wagering attention back to the football world as England begins its Euro campaign in a match against Serbia on Sunday.

In other football-related news this week, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers announced new kit sponsors in Net88 and Debet respectively. The two gambling organisations both operate out of Vietnam and have broken the record for the largest sponsorship deal in both club’s respective histories.

The deals have been drawn up for the medium term, as a ban on gambling advertisement on football shirts in the UK is likely to come into effect at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
